Signs – They are Everywhere
When we talk about signs; we are talking about a very broad topic here my friend. Signs are everywhere and all around us. I bet if you look around you can spot a couple of signs regarding something. Do that wherever you are and you will always get to see some sort of signs. You can make up your signs as well by your hands or fingers like a traffic policeman does or a match referee in cricket or wrestling may be. Signs play an important role and especially for those who cannot hear and just see from a distance.
Recently I was watching a game of cricket where the referee is in the center of the ground; people in the pavilion can of course not hear what is going on and even the scorers sitting on the side of the ground cannot; referee was making various signs to tell what is happening. Well, let’s not get into the details of cricket here; we were talking about the importance of signs. When you drive down a road, you can see several traffic signs as well; some might tell you to slow down, some might tell you to maintain a certain speed, some might show that there is a bridge ahead, some might say that a pedestrian crossing is coming up; there are several such signs that help the drivers to know what is coming up and they should be prepared to avoid any accidents.
We have a big population of deaf people on the planet today and all have them just have one language to communicate in with the rest of the world; their sign language. I got to spend some time with a few deaf people recently and trust me; their sign language is fun to learn. Signs have their own importance and we cannot deny that a lot of people rely on them as well; like I just mentioned the deaf people or people who can just see something from a distance and not hear it.
Similarly, recently I got ticketed for parking in the NO PARKING area; there was a big sign that said no parking but I failed to see it. You can even see signs on your cell phones; the green send button or the red disconnect or switch off button. You see how signs can say a lot of words as well just like pictures can.
